along with introducing the next member of our ‘बस १ सूत’ line of furniture experiments, as an exercise, we’ve done a little research on swings, it’s different types, forms and their history.

briefly now,

KIIK:
this one is a traditional Estonian swing called the kiik. essentially made out of logs of wood, requires an intense squatting routine to set in motion. kiiking is now an estonian sport.

TYRE SWING:
the tyre swing, generally hung from one anchor point on a tree, watch this guy swinging away, enjoying his various scales.

ROPE SWING:
these are created by tying one end of a length of rope to a tree branch, bridge, or other elevated structure. A knot or loop is usually put on the other end to prevent fraying and help the swinger stay on. Rope swings were often situated so that those swinging on them can let go and land in water deep enough to cushion the fall and to be swum around in.
